The post of Prime Minister of Lebanon was offered to the Ambassador to Germany

The post of Prime Minister of Lebanon was offered to the country’s Ambassador to Germany, Mustafa ADIB. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the administration of the President of the Republic Michel Aoun.

ADIB was charged with forming a new government. He has already made a comment and said that the country needs to form a Cabinet as soon as possible in order to immediately implement reforms. This is required in order to conclude an agreement with the International monetary Fund. “The opportunities for our country are small,” ADIB admitted.

The previous government resigned on August 10. This happened after the protests of the population, which did not stop for several days. Citizens took to the streets and demanded a change of the Cabinet, as they considered its incompetence the cause of the explosion in the port of Beirut, as well as accumulated social and economic problems.

The explosion in the port of the Lebanese capital occurred on August 4. The reason is storage in a warehouse of 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate. Explosives were confiscated from a ship under the flag of an African country due to a large debt of its owner in 2014. According to the latest data, the explosion killed at least 154 people and injured more than five thousand. Dozens of people are missing.
